Celebrites

Nicole Bessick

Some learners you just know are destined for the big time. Nicole Bessick was one of them. And she did not disappoint! First on her list of achievements was an Honours Degree from UCT specializing in Intellectual Property. Then there’s her acting. She got her big break in the locally produced and internationally acclaimed crime thriller “Cold Harbour”, screened at the Cannes, Berlin and Los Angeles film festivals.  She went on to feature in the Netflix hit “Black Mirror” and Investigation Discovery’s “Killer Instinct”. South African audiences will know her best for her work as Chloe on the hit ETV SAFTA nominated telenovela, “Broken Vows”.

One of the causes close to Nicole’s heart is bullying. That’s why she accepted a challenge to participate in the annual Celebrity Boxing Event – the first female celebrity boxing match on the continent. The purpose of the fight was to raise awareness around the bullying epidemic in South Africa. After three rounds, she was crowned the #BullyProof Champion!

She is also the anti-bullying spokesperson for the Jag Foundation, a charity that utilizes sport as a catalyst for social change in disadvantaged communities. Her efforts earned her a spot as a Marie Claire Future Shaper. Nicole has featured in a number of newspaper and magazine articles, including in the February 2018 edition of People.

Entrepreneurs

Lulo Rubushe

Milnerton High School is very proud to count Lulo – our most successful entrepreneur – as an Alumni. After matriculating in 2012, Lulo founded the RMDM Network.

His success with clients like KIA Motors, PUMA and Markhams lead to him being nominated as Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2017 by AABLA. In addition to this, Lulo was appointed a Youth Ambassador to the Presidency and receive a Presidential Behaviour Award.

Perhaps his most impressive accolade (so far) is his inclusion in the Forbes Magazine “30 under 30” Africa list for 2017.  This list identifies the brightest young entrepreneurs, innovators and game changers from around the world.

Golfers

Ji Sun Kang

By the time Ji Sun matriculated in 2013, she had won the Nomads South African Girl’s Championship and reached the final of the Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Championship. A year later she made history when she finished in the top 55 at the Western Province Amateur Stroke Play Championship … against the men.

She spent the next 2 years at the University of South Florida and Daytona College where she continued to perform consistently.

A highlight for her was winning Individual Honours at the 8th NJCAA National Championships in 2016. Her impressive performance helped her team (the Daytona Falcons) to a 25 shot victory. Ji Sun then moved back to South Korea.

She recently won the KPLGA Jump Tour (KPLGA 2017 Abacus Tournament) with rounds of 63 and 67. With this win she now moves up to the KPLGA Dream Tour. Ji Sun, with her quiet determination, is an example of where hard work and dedication can take you.

Golfers

Cara Gorlei

Cara was the South African Junior Champion and South African Player of the Year when she matriculated in 2014. That year, she represented South Africa at the World Amateur Team Espirito Trophy in Japan (and again in Mexico in 2016).

In 2015, she moved to America to study at the University of Arkansas on a Golf Scholarship. Not only did she perform superbly on the golf course, consistently qualifying for the NCAA Championships, but she also made it to the Dean’s List for academics!

In 2017, Cara won both the Strokeplay and Matchplay titles at the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Championship. Cara, who has been the #1-ranked South African Junior and Senior Women’s Player, is a great role model and ambassador for the our School and the sport.
